Jehovah's Witnesses Disfellowshipping a Cruel Inhumane Practice

Jehovah's Witnesses Disfellowshipping - Cruelty in Action

I am disfellowshipped. I was disfellowshipped back in April 1995 for daring to ask of the organization many questions which were bothering me. I grew up in the JW's from birth - 3rd generation. In a very VERY strict JW family. My father of course was an elder in the local kingdom hall.

Since being disfellowshipped almost 20 years ago I have lost the relationship I had with my wife, my son, my father, my mother, my sister and her family, and all members of the extended physical family not to mention everyone I grew up with in the local congregation and further afield across the circuit.

Essentially on that day in April 1995 I was thrown out of the only world I knew and was familiar with into the big outside world which I knew next to nothing about. Following this experience for a number of years I went through absolute hell in my mind.

You cannot even begin to imagine the emotional pain this experience caused me all these years ago and to some extent still carries on to this day. Only other individuals who have been or are presently going through this experience will have any idea what the experience of living with being disfellowshipped actually feels like.

Although very well healed in many respects (time is a great healer) I still suffer daily emotionally because of the treatment still meted out to me by my Jehovah's Witness family who are still in 'the truth' (although by no means is it my truth these days). For me the JW 'religion' is one big fat lie of epic proportions, only the JW family cannot or refuse to see this reality for what it is.

Living with being disfellowshipped is like living a life long sentence with no light at the end of the tunnel. Although the JW family are still all alive, by not having anything to do with me, under threat of extreme punishment themselves provided by means of the organization to hold their loyalty to The Watchtower organization rather than to their direct family members essentially all meaningful contact with my family has been lost forever.

According to the Jehovah's Witnesses I am 'mentally diseased', a manipulative liar, an apostate, someone who is partaking at the table of demons and a follower and lover of Satan. This is exactly how they refer to me (and hundreds of thousands of other individuals in this situation) in public via their district conventions and in their Watchtower Bible and Tract Society publications. I take great personal exception to this slander and libel against my person.

Under law both in the UK (religious hatred laws) and by charter at the United Nations I do have natural human rights and these laws and rights prohibit others from talking about me or referring to me in this manner. It is pure discrimination plain and simple.

If I called someone of a different nationality or color, if I called someone of a different sexual orientation or someone suffering a mental or physical disability 'mentally diseased' and went on record stating this publicly in the strongest language possible, quite rightly most people around the world would be outraged about such remarks.

Yet here we have a large group of people who are living under this life sentence every single day and for the most part the outside world including governments here in the west...they are doing very little about it. This inaction on their part I think is disgraceful. They should be doing a lot more to bring pressure on the corporation/charity commonly known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society / International Bible Students Association (Jehovah's Witnesses) to ensure this 'religion' does not treat other people in this manner. We all as individuals have legal rights under law. There is no escaping this fact.

Recently my JW parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. I did not even receive an invitation to attend because I am disfellowshipped.

Recently my JW niece was getting married. I did not even receive an invitation to my nieces wedding purely because I am disfellowshipped.

A couple of years ago an aunt of mine sadly died. She was disfellowshipped many years ago well before I was disfellowshipped. She and I used to keep in contact to encourage one another occasionally. Despite this, when it came to her funeral her two sons both elders in the JW faith, they both banned me from attending my aunts funeral and told me in no uncertain terms that I was not welcome. This despite the fact that they had treated their own mother as disfellowshipped for the best part of 35 years.

Worse when a non JW uncle died recently these two cousins did not attend their own uncle's funeral. Nor did my mother attend her own physical brothers funeral. I attended by myself in support of the family going through bereavement despite this being over 400 miles away.

The Jehovah's Witnesses are very keen to project this loving image to the rest of the world, to all outsiders, but when you know the truth about 'the truth' you realize just what a cruel inhumane organization this is.

It is an organization which rips peoples family lives apart.

It is an organization which causes the utmost dreadful misery to hundreds of thousands of people annually.

It is an organization which separates by force children from their parents and parents from their children.

It is an organization which rips apart the family ties between grandparents and their grandchildren and vice versa.

It is an organization which rips apart brothers from sisters and sisters from brothers.

It is an organization which demands total loyalty over and above giving loyalty to your family members.

Worse it is an organization which as a result of it's vile revolting practices has directly/indirectly caused significant numbers of individuals over the years to commit suicide because of the sense of loss and grief this organization has put these people through.

It is an organization which demands absolute loyalty, even going so far as to admonish parents to let their children die rather than accept a blood transfusion.

Now you tell me...

Does that sound like a loving organization to you?

Or does it sound like an organization which is extremely cruel and inhumane?

Make no mistake about it, this organization cares not for man made laws, they are a law unto themselves only and I think it's about time the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the International Bible Students Association (all one and the same) are brought to account.

In a nutshell...

The Jehovah's Witnesses need to stop full stop murdering people spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and physically.

For everyone who has been abused by this organization, this very wealthy corporation...I think compensation is due to these individuals thus affected or who have had their lives negatively impacted by this 'religion'. All of them. No exceptions.

For many years I was tortured at the hands of The Watchtower spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and physically. From birth. I believe I am due some compensation for these abuses against my person. It was and is my God given right as a man in my own right to choose for myself which religion, if any, I wish to belong to.Blackmailing me, in essence saying, you can have the full relationship with your family back but only if you rejoin us and renounce your current beliefs is not acceptable to me.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society organization should NOT have this right over the lives of other people simply for disagreeing with their belief system in which matter I had no choice because I was born into the Jehovah's Witnesses 3rd generation.

Physically beaten as a child more times than I can remember (many times a week throughout all of my childhood) with father quoting scriptures to me just before he would belt the living daylights out of me to keep me 'on the narrow road leading to everlasting life' was a punishment directly advocated and encouraged by The Watchtower Society.

My father would often hit me so hard in private (and in public at the back of the kingdom hall) that he on more than one occasion actually hurt his own hand from hitting me so hard. Sometimes though not in public he would also hit me with a wooden stick which once or twice left blood red welts on the back of my young body. Other times he would boast in front of other members of the congregation at the kingdom hall (when I was under 10 years old) that when he held me by the wrist he could hit me so hard that my feet would leave the ground and I would spin around almost a full 360 degrees.

You cannot even begin to imagine the humiliation I felt as a child growing up under these conditions which emotional scarring still affects me massively to this day as I find it very difficult to get close or to feel safe around other people. It was not to put too fine a point on it an absolutely bloody awful childhood experience, all the while the black Armageddon blanket hanging over me. And believe you me I have only touched very lightly on this subject so far in this post. I could say a great deal more.

Disfellowshipping is a vile, revolting, cruel and inhumane practice. It cuts you off from your family. It drives wedges between family members. It is a coercive manipulative mind control technique to get the individual afflicted by said disfellowshipping to fall back in line according to all the dictates of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

I believe without a shadow of doubt that it is about time the rest of the world and the powers that be in government started to recognize this problem and it's nigh time something was done about it.

The fact is for anyone who has been disfellowshipped (for whatever reason) there is very little help here on the outside of the Jehovah's Witnesses. This situation MUST change and the sooner the better lest we lose many more lives to suicide of which many lives have already been lost because of the psychological torture meted out to disfellowshipped individuals, which is exactly what it is as defined by the U.N. and human rights watch organizations and other government bodies.

We are ALL due compensation for the huge amount of suffering directly caused to us by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society commonly known as Jehovah's Witnesses.

  1. A beautifully written post, Mark. You describe the process and the effects of being a JW so well. It takes tremendous strength of character to endure all you have and to get out and survive all the ridiculous punishments. I'm so sorry that the whole experience has been so rough on you. I, too, am a third generation ex-JW. Got out about 30 years ago, went to University, got my Masters degree and became a psychotherapist. I have a book coming out in about a month called EXiting the JW cult: A Healing Handbook, written as a psychotherapist AND an ex-jdub. I hope you'll keep an eye out for it. You will find many helpful suggestions with regard to healing and recovery. In the meantime, you are helping others by sharing your experience here. I wish you well.

    1. Dave I left the religion at 62 years old and was raised in it. I have over 200 relatives still in. But I am better off with quite a few shunning me. I can enjoy life and other people. The ones that deal with me, we enjoy each other. It is a mind set you have to get in. I never ever read or listen to their talks. I talk to God through Jesus not men. It can be beautiful. They are in bondage, slaves still but you are a free man!! I can't dare know your feelings but the words expressed make me want to cry for you. I pretend my son went to war and was a casualty. I say well I will se him again. Sometimes you have to accept the death bury it and move on mournfully. I know you have since this writing and I too have moved on with my life and love the friends I have. There are many facebook sites that have lots of friends and the www.sixscreensofthewatchtower have a marvelous platform all night on saturday for you to talk and make friends. I am a psycho-therapist and have had to treat myself with God's help thru prayer I have risen above them and they didn't win by making me hate God.
That would be to much of a victory to give those demonic men of the governing body. Your family sounds like a piece of cake. Take care Dave.

  4. Dave I also wanted to add that it seems you are a victim of Child abuse from your father, not so much religion. Your mother ought to be ashamed of letting him beat you. I was there 62 years and knew thousands of witness children and non was beat etc like this. I would have told my teacher or somebody. He is an abuser. So I hope you get help for that. Persons can leave this religion so there is not much that can be done legally. When you are grown you can walk. hundreds of Thousand young people do it every day from strict religions. I hope you make peace with your parents or get closure and help to deal with this. Take Care of yourself, jacqueline

    1. It's not a religion it's a corporation for profit masquerading as a religion - big difference.

  5. This is not a merciful, forgiving Christian organization, rather they masquerade as Christians. They are a non-forgiveness cult, refusing to practice the forgiveness and mercy Christians were exhorted to show. It is insane to cut someone off for the rest of their lives, especially since the Bible tells us there is only ONE unforgivable sin.

  6. M. Rhoades I agree with you that the governing body and their policies are diabolical, satanic even. A 12 year old once stated on our site that this is wrong, so can't grown men make this assessment? We have a testimony meeting tonight from all over the world to talk about these experiences or just encourage. Come on if you desire, you are welcome. This is the link. http://www.friendsofjehovahswitnesses.com/2017/11/09/testimony-meeting/ Take care of yourself and may God bless you.
